LLTK is partnering with Vigor and the University of Washington’s Wetland Ecosystem Team to study an innovative habitat restoration project at Vigor’s Harbor Island shipyard, assessing whether this approach can help improve outcomes for juvenile salmon. The project is currently in the active habitat construction stage. Join us to tour the site and learn more about the project on Friday, July 29 from 2 – 4 PM.
Project Background: Why estuary restoration is important for salmon recovery
Research shows that access to healthy estuaries is crucial to how many young salmon can survive to adulthood. Our project with Vigor is seeking to identify whether much-needed functional estuary habitat for juvenile salmon can be created along working shorelines. We are hoping that lessons learned from this project can support future restoration projects within urban waterways.
Additional Tour Information: The site is located on private property. Once you RSVP, we will send you information on where to park and how to join us on site. The tour will include a visit to the restoration site, which is an active construction site and may have some accessibility limitations. We strive to host inclusive events that enable all individuals, regardless of abilities, to engage fully. To request an accommodation or for inquiries about accessibility, please contact Shaara Ainsley (sainsley@lltk.org; 206-382-9555 ext. 27). We can offer some support for transportation to/from the site by van if this allows for your organizations’ involvement. If this is of interest, please contact Shaara and we can discuss transportation options. This is an outdoor event that will be held rain or shine; however, it may be postponed due to unusually inclement weather.
The names of all individuals attending the tour are required to enter the property. Please register each individual separately to join.
